Decanter….Welcome to 2023!

More Wine had a great write up in the Decanter Top 25 to kick off 2023 in style. Five of our wines made the Top 25 listing and included the best priced white and best priced red.

If you are looking to lower your product wastage and packaging waste then hopefully we can help. We recently calculated a saving of over 2 tonnes of glass waste per annum for an 80 cover bistro in Frome, local to us, who pour a range of our BIB wines by glass and carafe.
MORE JOY IN 2023….THE RETURN OF RAISINS GAULOIS
Kind of where it all started. The cartoon character; the gentle squeeze of the grapes; the font; the simple use of colour; the completeness of the packaging. Show me a better designed BIB!
The domaine has been in the Lapierre family’s hands for a century and was taken over by Marcel, the 3rd generation of the family in 1973. Marcel sadly passed away in 2010 but is widely recognised as the godfather of gamay and was one of the Gang of Four who revolutionised natural winemaking. The domaine is now run by Marcel’s wife Marie, and their children Matthieu and Camille.
Such a joy to have Raisins Gaulois back in stock following the 2021 harvest, decimated by frost, where none was released due to very low yields.
The joyful exuberance of the packaging is very much backed up the juice inside.
100% gamay from granitic soils. Manual harvest, whole bunch carbonic maceration with wild yeast fermentation. Very light filtration, no fining and no S02 used during vinification with a very low dose of 13mg/ litre added during filling.
The wine is sold as Vin de France, as Lapierre suggests that the vines used for this wine at 20 years are too young (!) to produce a quality ‘Morgon’ which the family is also famous for producing. Thus, this wine is declassified and branded as Raisins Gaulois.
Packed with cranberry and red currant fruit, a refreshing gamay with lively acidity.
Lightly chill if you fancy.
Not all of our BIBs are such good lookers. The list at More Wine is curated by choosing the very best bag in box and pouch wines we can find from our network of like-minded producers and co-importers.
When the aesthetic of the packaging and quality of juice coincide, this of course brings real joy, but the quality of the wines themselves and the value they give the end user are to us paramount. Ease of use for service by the glass and carafe, lower product waste, lower packaging waste disposal and a massively reduced carbon footprint of supply compared to the same wines at higher prices in heavy glass bottles are the real benefits of using wines shipped in bag in box.
Our list always contains natural wines as well as more conventionally made wines from co-operatives most normally specialists in bag in box filling.
